The Squirrel Story page 5 - The Peace Offering

It seems that not only did they surrender, but they brought me a Christmas gift. Some sort of truce proposal, I suppose. But no deal - in December, the yard is mine! I found the following present, wrapped and decorated with nuts - at my front doorstep after the surrender:

I opened the package and was pleased to find a Nutter Butter bar inside. I was just about to enjoy it and savor the sweet taste of victory when I read the following letter enclosed in the package:

Oh boy - I thought this was going to be easy.

The three stuffed little fellahs sat in the yard through our whole display season and then mysteriously disappeared New Year's Eve night. I couldn't help but wonder if they would be back.

We left town to spend the week after Christmas with family in South Carolina. It was nice to get away from all the squirrels for a week. Or so I thought. When it was time for dessert guess what showed up? Squirrel cookies! (They were shaped like squirrels, not made from squirrels.) Squirrels trying to bite lights in the form of candles. How do you make gray cookie icing?
